Imagine a young mother, Kiran, living in a small village in rural Uttar Pradesh. She dreams of giving her children a better life, but struggles to make ends meet. But what if she had access to government schemes that could help her achieve her goals?
On International Women’s Day, let’s take a closer look at five popular government initiatives that are empowering women financially across India. These schemes are part of the government’s efforts to bridge the gender gap and promote women’s economic participation.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)
Launched in 2016, PMUY provides free LPG connections to vulnerable women, reducing their reliance on traditional fuels and improving their health and safety. The scheme has already benefited over 8 crore women, saving them over Rs 1,000 crore annually.
The government has also launched the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM), which aims to promote rural women’s entrepreneurship and provide them with access to financial resources. The scheme has enabled over 30 lakh women to start their own businesses, generating income and employment opportunities.
Another key scheme is the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which aims to provide affordable housing to low-income families. The scheme has already benefitted over 1 crore women, providing them with a safe and secure place to live.
The government has also launched the Mahila E-Hamara Kaam, a digital platform that enables women to access various government services, including financial assistance and skill development programs. The platform has already registered over 1 crore women, providing them with a range of benefits and opportunities.
Finally, the government has launched the Swadhar Greh scheme, which provides shelter and support to women in distress, including those who are victims of domestic violence. The scheme has already benefitted over 10 lakh women, providing them with a safe and supportive environment.
Empowering Women, Empowering India
These five government schemes are a testament to the government’s commitment to empowering women financially and promoting their economic participation. By providing them with access to resources, skills, and opportunities, these schemes are enabling women to break free from poverty and achieve their dreams.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let’s recognize the progress that has been made and look forward to a future where women have equal opportunities and participation in all spheres of life.
