A video of Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian taking what appeared to be a pill at an Indian Premier League (IPL) match has gone viral, sparking a massive controversy in the state’s politics.
Subramanian, who is a key ally of Chief Minister MK Stalin, was seen taking the pill at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during the IPL match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The video quickly went viral on social media, with many users claiming that the minister was taking a ‘drug’ or a ‘performance-enhancing’ substance.
The minister, however, has denied the allegations, saying that the pill was actually a medicine for his diabetes. He claimed that he takes the medicine every day to manage his condition.
Subramanian’s explanation has failed to convince many, with opposition parties and social media users calling for his resignation. The minister’s actions have also sparked a debate about the influence of politicians on the IPL, which is one of the most popular sports leagues in the country.
