Pak National Returns Home After Rare Handshake at LoC

Imagine being stuck on the wrong side of the border for 35 years, longing to see your family and taste the familiar flavors of back home. This is the reality of thousands of Indians languishing in Pakistani prisons, often due to a mix-up or a miscalculation.

But for a Pak national, named Rizwan Ahmad, the tables turned recently. He was allowed to return home after a remarkable encounter at the Line of Control (LoC) – a place where tensions run high and handshakes are a rare occurrence.

Rare Gesture at LoC

According to reports, Ahmad, a resident of Pakistan’s Azad Jammu and Kashmir, had crossed over to the Indian side of the LoC, mistakenly believing it to be the other way around. However, instead of being detained or facing hostility, he was met with a rare display of kindness by Indian authorities.

A Border Security Force (BSF) officer, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that Ahmad was initially taken into custody but soon realized the mix-up. The officer then decided to grant him a rare gesture – a handshake – before allowing him to return home.

This heartwarming encounter is a refreshing change from the usual narrative of hostility and tension at the LoC. In recent years, there have been numerous instances of cross-border firings, ceasefire violations, and even the use of drones to drop explosives.

However, in Ahmad’s case, something different happened. The BSF officer, taking a cue from his superiors, chose to show compassion and understanding. He handed over Ahmad to the Pakistani authorities, who were waiting on the other side of the LoC.

Expert Context

Dr. Arindam Chaudhuri, a foreign policy expert, believes that this rare gesture is a significant development. ‘It shows that even in the midst of conflict, there are still individuals who can think beyond the politics and the propaganda,’ he said.

Chaudhuri also pointed out that such acts of kindness can help in de-escalating tensions and fostering a sense of trust between nations. ‘When we see such human stories, it gives us hope that we can find common ground and work towards a more peaceful coexistence,’ he added.

For Rizwan Ahmad, the rare handshake at the LoC was a moment of pure joy. It’s a reminder that even in the most challenging circumstances, there is always a chance for redemption and a fresh start.

Why This Matters

This incident is a stark reminder of the human cost of conflict. Thousands of people, like Ahmad, are stuck in limbo, often due to circumstances beyond their control.

However, the rare gesture at the LoC also offers a glimmer of hope. It shows that even in the midst of tension and hostility, there is still room for compassion, empathy, and kindness. As we move forward, it’s essential to learn from such stories and work towards creating a more peaceful and harmonious world.
