Madhya Pradesh launches new film policy to attract movie makers

Imagine you’re a filmmaker in India wanting to shoot your next big project. You’re looking for beautiful locations, tax breaks, and government support. Now, Madhya Pradesh is rolling out the welcome mat with a brand new film policy designed to make your job easier and cheaper.

The state government has announced an updated film policy aimed at turning Madhya Pradesh into a hub for movie production. The move comes as other Indian states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana have already established themselves as go-to destinations for filmmakers. MP doesn’t want to be left behind.

What’s in it for filmmakers?

The new policy offers several incentives to production houses and filmmakers. These include financial subsidies, tax relief, and faster approval processes for shooting permits. The government is essentially saying: come shoot here, and we’ll make it worth your while financially.

The state also plans to set up dedicated film facilitation cells to help producers navigate paperwork and logistics. This means fewer headaches when booking locations, getting permissions, and managing crowd control during shoots.

Beyond money, MP has something many filmmakers actually want — diverse landscapes. From the dense forests of Kanha and Bandhavgarh to historic temples, waterfalls, and urban backdrops, the state offers variety without having to travel across multiple states. Shooting locations matter as much as budget for most productions.

Why does this matter for the state?

When filmmakers come to shoot, they spend money locally. They hire local workers, book hotels, rent equipment, and buy supplies. It creates jobs and boosts the economy of smaller towns that rarely get such opportunities.

Films and web series also put places on the map. When viewers see beautiful locations in movies, they want to visit those places as tourists. This indirectly boosts MP’s tourism sector as well. Think about how many people wanted to visit Arunachal Pradesh after watching “Along the Lines” or flocked to Himachal after “Himmatwali.”

The film industry is also a source of pride and cultural expression. States that support filmmaking position themselves as progressive and business-friendly.

Other states have already seen success with similar strategies. Karnataka’s film policy has attracted major productions. Telangana’s incentives have drawn numerous filmmakers. MP is now competing in the same space, trying to grab a slice of the estimated ₹20,000+ crore Indian film industry.

The government will likely announce more details about subsidy amounts, eligibility criteria, and the timeline soon. If the policy is well-executed and properly promoted, filmmakers across India and beyond might just start considering Madhya Pradesh as their next shooting destination.
