Student power ran amok in Lucknow, as Gen Alpha students took to the streets in a massive protest against the crippling teacher shortage in the city’s schools.
Carrying placards and banners, the students, mostly from Classes 9 and 10, marched through the city’s main roads, drawing huge crowds and attention from the authorities.
Teacher Shortage: A Crisis Unfolds
The protest was sparked by the acute shortage of teachers in government schools, which has left students like 14-year-old Rohan Kumar, a Class 9 student, with little choice but to take matters into his own hands.
‘We’ve been struggling to find teachers for our subjects for months now,’ Rohan said, as he held up a placard that read, ‘Teachers are our future.’
‘Our school has a shortage of over 20 teachers, and we’re expected to learn without proper guidance. It’s not fair,’ he added.
Student Power Takes Charge
The protest, which was reportedly organized by the student leaders, saw hundreds of students converge on the city’s main roads, demanding that the authorities take immediate action to address the teacher shortage.
Students from various schools in the city participated in the protest, with many of them sharing their personal experiences of struggling to cope with the teacher shortage.
‘We’re not just protesting for ourselves; we’re doing it for the future of our education,’ said 16-year-old Aisha Khan, a Class 10 student.
‘We’re tired of being told that there aren’t enough teachers, while the government keeps promising to fill the vacancies. It’s time for them to take action,’ she added.

The Lucknow administration has promised to take the students’ demands seriously and has vowed to fill the teacher vacancies within the next 6 weeks.
‘We understand the concerns of the students and their parents, and we’re committed to finding a solution to the teacher shortage,’ said a spokesperson for the Lucknow administration.
Meanwhile, the students have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met, with many of them promising to escalate their action if the authorities fail to deliver.
‘We’ll not back down until we get the teachers we need,’ said Rohan, as the students dispersed, but vowed to continue their fight for a better education.
The protest has sparked a national debate on the state of education in India, with many experts calling for a comprehensive overhaul of the education system to address the teacher shortage and other pressing issues.
