Pune Regularises Small Encroachments

The Maharashtra government has issued a government resolution (GR) allowing residential encroachments up to 500 sq ft to be regularised in Pune.

This move is expected to benefit thousands of residents in the city who have been living in these encroached plots for years.

According to sources, the decision was taken to ease the burden on residents who have been struggling to find alternative accommodation.

Why It Matters

The regularisation of these encroachments will not only provide relief to the residents but also help in preventing the city’s informal settlements from turning into slums.

It is a significant step towards addressing the issue of housing shortage in the city, which has been a major concern for the government.

However, experts warn that the move may also lead to an increase in property prices in the area.

What’s Next

The government has asked the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to draft a proposal for the regularisation of these encroachments within the next six months.

The proposal will then be sent to the state government for approval.

The PMC has also been asked to conduct a survey to identify the number of residents who will benefit from this move.

The survey will help the government to assess the impact of this decision and make necessary adjustments.
