Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s counterpart in Goa, P S Sreedharan Pillai’s counterpart, Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, has echoed the National Education Policy’s (NEP) vision of transforming students into job-givers, not job-seekers.
The Governor made these remarks during the 8th Convocation of Goa University, where over 4,500 students received their degrees.
NEP’s Emphasis on Entrepreneurship
The NEP, unveiled last year, envisions India as a knowledge hub and a powerhouse of innovation, with a focus on making students entrepreneurs rather than mere employees.
Highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship, Governor Pillai said, ‘The NEP aims to change the student’s mindset from being a job-seeker to a job-giver. This is a fundamental shift in the way we approach education and skills development.’
The Governor acknowledged the role of universities in shaping the future of the nation and emphasized the need for them to be at the forefront of innovation and entrepreneurship.
‘The universities must not only focus on imparting knowledge but also on making students employable and entrepreneurs,’ he said.
Goa University’s Contribution to NEP’s Vision
Goa University, with its strong focus on research and innovation, is well-positioned to contribute to the NEP’s vision, Governor Pillai noted.
‘The university’s research and innovation ecosystem is a shining example of the NEP’s emphasis on making India a knowledge hub,’ he said.
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the industry and academia, Governor Pillai urged the students to leverage the opportunities available to them.
‘I urge the students to collaborate with the industry, to innovate, and to create jobs for others,’ he said.
A New Era in Education and Entrepreneurship
The Governor’s remarks reflect the changing landscape of education and entrepreneurship in India, with a growing recognition of the importance of innovation and job creation.
The NEP’s vision of transforming students into job-givers is a significant step towards realizing India’s full potential as a knowledge hub and a powerhouse of innovation.
The success of this vision will depend on the collective efforts of educators, policymakers, and industry leaders, Governor Pillai noted.
As India embarks on this new journey, the Governor’s words of wisdom serve as a reminder of the immense opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
With the NEP’s vision as a guiding force, India is poised to become a global leader in innovation and job creation, and the journey begins with the transformation of students into job-givers, not job-seekers.
